Questions
The things people ask before they ring.
Plainly answered, including the money. If yours is not here, ask it on the free call — that is largely what the call is for.
You may also want what actually happens in a first session, or the things people most often bring.
How long does counselling usually last?
Therapy doesn’t have a set timeline. Some people come for a short period to work through a specific concern; others stay longer as deeper layers of their experience emerge. We check in together as we go, paying attention to what feels useful, what’s shifting, and whether continuing still supports your goals. The length of therapy is something we decide collaboratively, based on your needs and what feels right for you.
What are the common benefits of therapy?
Many people find therapy helps them understand themselves more clearly. It offers a steady place to explore what’s happening in their lives, make sense of difficult experiences, and develop more grounded ways of responding to challenges. The benefits are different for everyone, but they often come from having a consistent, supportive space to reflect and grow.
I am worried about my first session.
It’s completely normal to feel unsure before starting therapy. The first session is simply a gentle chance to connect, get a sense of each other, and explore what feels present for you at a pace that feels manageable. You don’t need to arrive with anything prepared; we start from wherever you are.
Do you offer telehealth or phone counselling?
Sessions can be by phone, video conference, or in person in Fitzroy, whichever feels most comfortable for you. Each option is the same length and the same fee.
What does it cost?
Sessions are 50 minutes and the standard fee is $140. Sliding-scale fees are available for those who need them, offered thoughtfully on a case-by-case basis.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?
No, I don’t offer Medicare rebates, and my fees are adjusted with this in mind. They’re kept in line with the rates of psychologists and social workers who can offer Mental Health Care Plan rebates, so my therapy practice remains as accessible as possible.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can book directly, and you do not need a mental health care plan or a diagnosis to start.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is completely protected by law. The only exception is where there is an imminent threat to someone’s safety. Client information is stored securely in line with PACFA requirements.
What if I need to cancel?
48 hours notice is required for cancellations.
Where are you?
263 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy 3065.
